A print job?! I used to work in print, briefly, a very long time ago, and I’ve been involved with a few print jobs over the years. Albums, vinyl, posters etc, so this isn’t a drastic departure.

Way back around 2016, my fellow Mega Drive maniac Matt Phillips began a Kickstarter for a brand new Mega Drive game he was developing on original hardware, which I duly backed. I met Matt at one of the Replay Events, and excitedly talked MD games with him as I played an early demo. I could feel an amazing game taking shape on first play, and said when the time was right, I’d offer my services to do the design of the packaging.

True enough, when the time came, Matt dropped me a line and we began work on the packaging. The illustration was provided by Luis Martins (of Paprium fame), and it was up to me to get the style of the packaing on point to match that 90s feel of the original Mega Drive cases, manuals and cart stickers.

First revisions of these covers were very, very close to the original Mega Drive covers, boxes and logos, but Matt didn’t want to fly that close to the sun, so we toned it down and made some stylistic alterations to logos etc, but kept the same look and feel.

Matt was super happy with how this all turned out, and asked me to do the cover for the soundtrack’s vinyl release too!
